Electric vehicles (EV) are gaining in popularity due to their lower impact on the environment. Increasing public awareness about environmental responsibility has led to the "World EV Day" which falls on 9th September. Nissan, a leading carmaker which produced and launched the first EV for the mass market – the Nissan LEAF – invites you to explore a new perspective of the EV, not as a mode of transport, but as a companion in your life and a contributor to sustainable energy.

  • Nissan LEAF is an EV that serves as your huge personal mobile battery. It was built to correspond with the "Nissan Energy Share" concept, which underlines Nissan's belief that an EV has the potential to be the source of reserve energy for home and society.
  • Nissan Energy Share also supports the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) concept. It is believed that small or medium-scale power-generating units, like solar rooftops or EVs with good energy storage systems, can be optimized for society. If we are able to draw excess energy from these power-generating units along with using advanced technology, we can increase energy management efficiency, absorbing excess energy and distributing power from these sources during shortages or blackouts.
  • EVs with bi-directional chargers help us optimize energy stored in an EV battery. The bi-directional charger can discharge excess energy from the battery to the home (V2H) during peak hours. During off-peak hours, such as at night, the charger will distribute electricity back to the EV battery.  If the house is equipped with a solar rooftop, the charger can discharge electricity to the EV battery. This will reduce any waste of electricity whenever the solar panels produce excess energy. And, with good energy management, using power from the EV battery during peak hours when unit rates are high means lower electricity bills at the end of the month.
  • The EV also comes to the rescue in an emergency. In times of disaster, power blackouts, or power shortages, you can simply use your bi-directional charger to connect your car and the electricity system in your house. Your EV battery will then supply power to electrical appliances for 1-2 days*

* Depending on energy level in the battery and household consumption

  • The EV also gives you great enjoyment on the road. The good performance and lower emissions mean the EV can be an integral part of your life and a favored member of your family.
  • With a modern look and feel, the attractively designed bi-directional charger and an EV can enhance your home atmosphere, making it clean and green.
